This is a hand-held simple magnifier made of turned fruit wood. Imaging is via a biconvex lens (dia=16mm, f=7mm) with a total magnification of approximately 5x. The sample holder is a bent metal pin onto which a sample is placed. Focusing is accomplished by sliding the base of the sample pin in or out of the handle. Imaging is poor with low resolution and vignetting.
